Dear Annawan School Community,
Recently, we’ve heard much about democracy and the importance of local decision-making. A cornerstone of American democracy is the engagement of community members in shaping local institutions. One of the most impactful ways to contribute locally is through school boards, which play a critical role in representing the values, views, and priorities of the community within our schools. School board members are elected by you, the residents, to help guide the future of our district. They engage regularly with the public to communicate challenges, share ideas, and celebrate progress.
School board elections occur every two years, with staggered terms to ensure continuity. On April 1, 2025, three seats on the Annawan School Board will be up for election. At least one seat will welcome a new member. I encourage anyone who is passionate about education and our community’s future to consider running for a seat. This is your opportunity to be a part of the democratic process and help shape the direction of our schools.
For those interested, the following dates are key:
Tuesday, August 20, 2024 – First day for school board candidates to circulate nominating petitions.
Tuesday, November 12, 2024 – Candidate filing period begins (submit nominating petitions, statement of candidacy, and Statement of Economic Interests).
Monday, November 18, 2024 – Candidate filing period ends.
Monday, November 25, 2024 – Last day to file objections to nominating petitions.
Wednesday, November 27, 2024 – Ballot placement lottery (if needed).
Thursday, January 23, 2025 – Last day to file Withdrawal of Candidacy.
Thursday, January 30, 2025 – Last day to file as a write-in candidate.
Tuesday, April 1, 2025 – Election Day (polls open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.).
Serving on the school board is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the success of our district and the future of our children. If you have any questions about the process or what it entails to be a candidate, feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement.
Sincerely,
Jamie Bryan
Superintendent of Annawan Schools
